Warangal was named Orugallu when it was the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty from 1195 to 1323 CE. Its old name was Orugallu where Oru means another Kallu means stone. The headquarters of Warangal district is in Telangana. It is 145 km to the northeast of Warangal Hyderabad. It is a well-known fact that the Kakatiya people were very fond of art. It built many temples and kilos in the Kakatiya kings and some temples have impressive forts throughout the city and Constructed stone clasps. The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb acquired Warangal in 1687 as part of the Golconda Sultanate and became part of Hyderabad.   In 1948, Hyderabad was taken over by the Government of India and the Telangana region. Where it became a part of Andhra Pradesh. Today Warangal is famous for its educational institutions. The city is the prestigious Kakatiya University, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and National Institute of Technology. Beautiful forests, excellent temples, rich creatures and flora have contributed to its importance as a tourist center in Warangal. The cultural and administrative distinction of the Kakatiya people was mentioned by the famous Italian traveler Marco Polo.  

Fairs and Festivals

The festivals celebrated in this Warangal are Eid ul Fitr, Dussehra and Deepawali during October. Apart from these festivals, Sarkaka Yatra or congregation is also organized. Which is a charity fair and about five million people take part in it.
